MARINE
We know harsh environments and cramped spaces are just the beginning of the challenges you face in wire harness design. At Kauffman Engineering, we have the engineering expertise and production capacity to tackle every part whether it is simple or complex.
WHERE KAUFFMAN ENGINEERING CAN HELP…
While many of the connections are specific standards that cannot be changed, there are also many which could be standardized. By selecting a specific product family from a quality manufacturer you can standardize the contacts, seals, and wire types even while using a myriad of different pin count connectors.
By contrast to standardization, a common thought is to seal every connector on a harness where some connections are exposed to the environment. Many connector families have sealed and unsealed versions that utilize many of the same parts. Seals can be expensive. If you have a complex harness where certain connections are not exposed, consider using the unsealed version of the same family. This will save cost while still maintaining commonality of parts.
When using multi-conductor cable, it can sometimes be advantageous to specify an extra wire or two. While it adds cost to the initial design it can help avoid redesign and obsolescence if features are added to the product in the future.
Complex cables need to be tested. Field failures are too expensive to chance with random sample inspection. At Kauffman Engineering, for all of our marine, we test every harness we make to ensure it meets your exact specifications.
